An Open Clinic
In our plan for this new medical care centre, we proposed an "open clinic". Instead of dividing the program by separate spaces, the waiting space surrounds the open doctor space. Whereas an isolated waiting room builds up boredom and anxiety, the open clinic allow patients to listen to doctors discussing examination and treatment, as well as the explanations of the nurse. Therefore boredom is substituted with eye care education. The uneasiness of a patient is reduced through the calming curvilinear form of the space, which in addition allows a smooth flow of medical examination, treatment, and inspection. The anxiety of the doctors is also reduced as they can see how many people are waiting. At the same time, they can easily observe the actions of the nurses in order to watch out for, and prevent, a medical error. About a year has passed since the completion of the clinic; however, the doctors and the staff who have been popular with the patients from the start, together with the charm of the space, bring forth the popularity of the ophthalmologist clinic.
