SKY SHIP: The Residence That Voyages The Sky

Design Concept
This house, where new people and new memories pile up each year, is envisioned as a boat that travels time. In this boat, every servant, family and friend feels life travelling life every moment at they watch the changing sky. Though the sea cannot be seen, the living room, with its high windows, makes one feel as though they are watching the sky from a ship's deck.

The roof which floats the sky
The boat shaped roof provides full pleasure of the sky by tiliting the eaves while blocking direct sunlight. The raised eaves was made possible by the large transoms, so whether the day pours in with a morning glow or a shower storm, by nightfall, the charm of the moon and the stream of stars can be enjoyed.

Under one roof
Sky Ship functions both as an architect's office and a house; however a plane separates the work space from the private space making them perfectly independent of one another. However, the large continuous roof, with the ship's bottom exposed in both spaces, makes the building appear as one body. In order to sense the presence of the work workplace from the living room and vice versa, a transparent sound insulation glass placed up high between the two rooms was considered. While the two programs are separated, the impression of being "under on roof" is given.

The house with a large hall
Below the Sky Ship roof, a large living space is created by making the living, dining and children's room one body of large space where communication flows, bustling like a large reception hall.

Life style practice
As an everyday architect, I propose a life style where the workplace is a place of practice. The Hayama office, surrounded by the sea and greenery, undergoes a practice to propose offices of the new age.
